I lost a neighbor last night. She was in her 70's and in poor health, so it wasn't totally sudden or shocking. But there is something about when they're gone that makes everything feel different, don't you think? I love this sweet lady. There has always been something about her; a little, undefined connection we shared.
Knowing her situation, I had to go for a visit last week. I couldn't imagine not having that last chance to tell that I was thinking of her and that I loved her. As I approached the driveway, I felt the spirit so strongly. I knew I was supposed to be there. She was doing much better than I expected when I saw her. She was totally coherent and I enjoyed a lovely visit.
I got really sick and have been stuck in bed the last few days (nasty strain of Strep), which would have prevented any chance of visits. Had I not gone that day, I would have completely missed the opportunity. How privileged I feel to have had those sweet moments with her. What a gift and blessing.
As I lay in bed tonight pondering the news of her passing, I again felt the warmth of the spirit return. Now I am trying to sort out what it all means, what lesson there is to learn, what more there is for me to do (all that deep thinking). Maybe we knew each other before and our spirits just reconnected?
Thanks, Betty, for teaching me that you can truly love someone regardless of age and circumstance or time spent together (for we didn't other than casual visits) and for whatever I continue to learn from this experience. I love you....'til we meet again.
I appreciate you sharing this! I am glad you got to visit with her! I totally agree about that wonderful something inherent in her! She was always a ray of light to anyone she was around! She will be missed. thanks for sharing these sweet thoughts...it touched me!
What a sweet tribute to Betty. And what a great experience for you to have that last visit with her. A very touching story and I'm so glad you took time to write it down. Thanks for sharing.
I often find myself having moments such as these. I too am grateful for what I am learning and the love that is experienced while you get them in your life. I love you Dee. Thanks!

Good for you! I had no idea that the situation had deteriorated as it had until it was too late. She was a great woman. And will be missed greatly.
