Well, today was the day of Jonah's surgery. He had a little growth on his tongue which was getting bigger so we thought we better have it removed. Although final results are not back yet, it is thought to be a Viral Papilloma, which basically means it was caused by a virus and doesn't appear to be anything scary.
We headed up to Primary Children's Medical Center just after 11:00 this morning. I can't believe how well he did with fasting. I did not have any trouble with him asking for food or drink. Once we were there and checked in he went to be checked by the NP to make sure he was "okay" for surgery. He changed into his little pj's, played bubbles and we colored to pass the time.
After that we went into the surgical waiting room. You can tell by the pictures he was so happy and obviously had no idea what he was in for. He just thought the waiting room was like nursery at church; a room full of new toys for him to explore and play with.
The anesthesiologist came to take him to surgery. We had him in the wagon pulling him towards surgery and he was still having a ball. Then, when we got to the surgical doors and the anesthesiologist took over, he looked back at us like "what is going on".
It is the hardest thing to turn you child over to someone else. It took everything I had not to burst out in tears. Those who know me know I have a hard time with hospitals and doctor stuff anyway, and to not be able to be there for him and hold his little hand was torture. I know this was minor surgery (only about 20 minutes), but he's my baby!
The doctor came out to tell us everything went very well. I asked if he panicked when we left and he said he did great. He said he kept saying, "Noah" and when they asked his name he kept saying, "Noah". They just thought he was confused, but I had to explain that that was actually his big brother whom he adores. That's what happens when you name your children with such similar names. The doctor got a good chuckle out of it. He said they just thought he got his bible stories mixed up.
When I went into recovery he was laying back on his pillow with his hands behind his head like he was sitting in the sun on his lounge chair. It was so cute! He about leapt out of his bed when he saw me. Oh joyous reunion! The said he was the prize patient of the day. He did not even cry at all. Even when they took out his breathing tube they said he just kind of smiled and put his hands behind his head. He had them all wrapped around his finger!
He fell asleep in my arms and we moved to post-op. He slept for a while and when he woke up drank all his juice, inhaled a Popsicle and was ready to go home. Other than the stitches totally annoying him (like having a hair stuck on your tongue), he has been acting fine ever since.
When we got home the only thing he wanted to do was go outside and play with Noah. He has been eating, drinking, playing and being his normal self. What a resilient, happy little guy! We just love his smiley disposition and enjoy him so much. I also want to thank my husband, for I know the priesthood blessing he gave Jonah before we left was the key to such a wonderful experience and outcome.
Thank you to everyone who has cared so much! We love you!

I am SO glad everything went so well with Jonah's surgery. I've been thinking about you all day. Give him a big hug and kiss from Aunt Jill and tell him how proud I am of him. As a matter of fact, have the kids give you a hug D because YOU were so brave. I would have been a mess!
Love ya lots!
What a trooper!!! I am so happy that everything went well. Funny about him saying Noah. Max calls Will and Ben both "Ben".
I can't believe how good he was. And, I am so proud of you. You are turning into a true blogger with all of those pictures along the way!
I've been there with both Ben and Max and it was so hard letting them go. Luckily it wasn't very long either. How long does he have to keep the stiches in for?
What a sweet sweet boy. His pictures are so darling... those lips... you are in trouble with those. I am glad that the surgery was great. It is scary, even if it is just a small surgery. The priesthood blessings are so great and comforting... I agree.
I have been meaning to ask you for a while when you were doing this. I'm SO glad everything went well. What a cute boy. I love Primary Children's, they are so great.
That is so funny what the dr. said about getting his bible stories mixed up.
So glad you took pictures of it. He's so dang cute.
wow what a brave boy! and an even braver mom-that is the hardest thing to let go of your child like that. Kyra had ear tubes put in when she was 6 months old and it was hard letting them take her.
His pictures are so cute! Glad everything went so well.
I am so glad that he did so well. I meant to call you today and see how it was. you are amazing to have already posted.
