Hometown Idol

This is probably the first year we have really followed American Idol; partially because Zoe is at the age where she is more interested, but most importantly because one of the top three finalists is from our hometown. So when David Archuletta came home for a visit after making it to the top three, we couldn't resist going to see him.

Nana and I took the kids, along with Zoe's friend Sadie, and braced for the 10,000 people that were to be there with us. But I have to say it was not nearly as bad as I thought it would be. We were able to get a spot in the bleachers (safer that fighting the crowd with Jonah), then the wait began.

Fortunately, his limo pulled in behind our set of bleachers so we were able to get a sneak peak before everyone else. He was with his mom who is gorgeous and looks like she could be his sister. (Zoe and Sadie were wondering why I don't look that young. Thanks.)

They did the celebration "pep rally" style complete with cheerleaders, drill team, pep bank and the like. Just like the good ol' days... The M-C was Big Buddha from a local TV station. Then they had a parade with government and school officials and then David. I am sure it was overwhelming to see so many screaming for him, when I don't believe it was like that six months ago when this journey began.

After the parade he was welcomed to the stage. Governor Huntsman and Mayor Snarr pronounced May 9th as "David Archuletta Day" and Mayor Caroon gave him a street sign which read "Archuletta Ave". Mayor Snarr also had the privilege of telling David the song that Paula has chosen for him to sing on Tuesday. It was fun to be a part of this possible once-in-a-lifetime event. That is also one of the reasons I love living here; there is such a community feel and we all try to support one another.

He is genuinely a really nice kid with an amazing voice. He seemed truly touched and humbled by the outpouring. We will be anxiously watching and cheering him on to the finals. GOOD LUCK, DAVID!

You had a MUCH better view than we did down on the field. You got some REALLY great pictures. Looks like the kids had a great time. I love the look on Noah's face in that picture of the girls kissing the poster. So funny!

You did get some great pics. I didn't realize that was his mom!!! We saw him at the jazz game and she was with him, (I couldn't believe she was in a bright yellow jacket-looked like a Laker fan). Anyway, I am trying to post my video of him singing the national anthem on my blog. That is so fun that you went.
